Week 8- Moving on up…to the Eastside (or the guest bedroom, if you like)

Last week we moved Zoë from the bassinet in our bedroom to the pack-and-play in the upstairs guest bedroom. I will say that it was a milestone that I knew would bring us all more sleep (Zoë was hitting her hands on the side of the bassinet when she was sleeping and we were waking up at every grunt, sigh and movement); but at the same time, it was a milestone that was a bit sad. It marked a moment that she was moving out of the newborn phase for me- that little swaddled burrito to a baby that was kicking her legs all around in her pack-and-play. That first night, she slept 4.5 hours, followed by the next night at 5 hours. It was pure heaven! Again, we’re not getting too excited as we know patterns change by the day. She is however, sleeping longer stretches in the night, and we all wake up with smiles (well, not Marshall, he never smiles when he wakes up:). This week Zoë has been busy hanging out in her nursery with Cady, swinging in the lamb swing borrowed from Rach and Kristi, discovering her hands, working on holding her neck up, bubbling her mouth, grabbing things like my hair and the toy rings on her playmat, a little fake coughing, and smiling lots. Her smile- yes, I stand corrected….that’s pure heaven! Also this week, Zoë made her first trip to Piedmont Park for a walk with me and Nicole. It was a beautiful day and it was kinda funny the number of mommies, babies and Bob strollers in that place. Zoë also met many of my friends at Atlanta International School just before faculty departed for the summer. Ilse was talking to her in Spanish, Thierry in French, and then all the Brits- well, you know- she was trying to decipher what they were trying to say too:). At home, we enjoyed visits from Auntie Char, and my little sister, Cindy, who stopped by on her way to Savannah. She’ll be back next week with Davis before they fly out to language school in Nicaragua. Enjoy the pics!
