afternoon on the porch…

Marshall had a work dinner one night last week, so it was just me and Z all on our own. I couldn’t wait to pick her up from school, and I made a point to leave work right at 4pm so that we could have a good 2 1/2 hours together before she went to bed. It was a gloomy, rainy day, but that didn’t stop us from sitting on our front porch. Rocking in the rocking chair while Cady explored for chipmunks in the yard, Zoë and I just watched cars drive by. Counting each one and naming the colors. I remember when Zoë was so small and outside had a way of soothing her like no other magic trick. If she was screaming inside, you could walk outside and she was immediately at peace. Those days still exist, but now instead of her entire body cradled in my arms, her legs fall over mine, and she just watches as the world goes by. Still one of my absolute favorite places to spend time with my baby girl….
