Meet the mum mum! Yes, a sheer hero when it comes to a road trip with an 8 month old. With Marshall’s work schedule, he wasn’t able to travel with me and Zoë to Savannah the day after Christmas. Zoë and I braved I-16 on our own to catch up with my family for Christmas. For my prego and new mommy friends, I thought this post may offer you some help for months down the road. So, Zoë has gotten to the stage where she doesn’t like to be strapped to anything- a carseat, a stroller, a baby bjorn. Let’s just say that I wasn’t especially looking forward to our road trip with these new baby traits. I strategically left Atlanta right after she woke up, as her morning time offers the least amount of playtime before her first nap and she is also at her best in those first hours of the day. It would be perfect- a time where I thought I could entertain her with toys in her carseat along with scenery out the window, and if we got into a real emergency- turn on the Coldplay lullabies (which have always been a favorite in my car for me and Zoë both). With my departure in the morning, my goal was to feed her, get her in the car, stop in Macon for an appetizer bottle, and then she would be asleep for the rest of the way. Well, let’s just say that my plan went to pot the minute I was out of my driveway….Toys: only lasted about 2 minutes a piece before she would throw them on the floorboard where I couldn’t reach them from the front seat. Scenery: well, I-75 traffic in the morning wasn’t really her thing. That brings me to my special hero- mum mums. They’re little baby crackers that have the weight of paper, look a little like cardboard, taste like nothing, and to Zoë, are the bomb-diggity! Although I was cycling through my reserve of toys in the front seat at a rate of about one every five minutes, the mum mums provided at least 10 minutes a cracker. Luckily, I made it to Macon, fed her a bottle, and then she slept for about an hour. You may wander about the rest of the drive to Savannah; well, mum mums to the rescue. Although it’s probably not recommended for a baby to eat 8 mum mums in a 5 hour drive, it worked. So, here’s my review of mum mums: 5 stars!
