On Wednesday of this week, we woke up to an extremely cranky Zoë. She cried while Marshall was getting her ready in the morning, she cried the whole way to daycare, and she cried when I dropped her off with Mrs. Valerie (which never happens!). We couldn’t really figure out what was wrong especially since she had slept well, ate well and wasn’t running a fever. That afternoon I got a call from Mrs. Valerie at her daycare letting me know that Zoë hadn’t smiled for about six hours. For those of you that know Zoë, this never happens. The little girl is like a ray of sunshine and is constantly smiling! With that call, we decided it would be best to go ahead and see if we could get her in to see her pediatrician. I’ll be honest, we don’t really know much about being parents, but what we do know (and have learned) is that when Zoë isn’t acting right, there’s generally something wrong.

The daycare had her all suited up in her hat and jacket at the time I estimated I would be by to pick her up. It was so sweet to see her rocked to sleep on the lap of Mrs. Susan when I arrived. Marshall met me at her school and we made our way to the pediatrician. Yep, another ear infection! The good thing is that we were recently at the doctor’s office for Zoë’s nine month checkup, so they confirmed at that visit that her previous ear infection had cleared up. At least they knew that this infection was a new one, and that the other one did in fact clear with the medicine. At the point when the ear infections start coming consistently, or are not clearing with medicine, the doctor said we would need to be concerned. As for now, it’s all so common in babies. So, onto a new antibiotic (without penicillin), and hopefully this one will clear soon too!
