I can’t say enough great things about our long MLK weekend. We began with Friday night on the Westside. It’s no surprise to our family and friends, we love the Westside. It’s got some of the best shops, restaurants, and bars (although we don’t really get to frequent those), and most of all- it’s our neighborhood. There’s something comfortable about going out and running into folks you know. On this Friday, we hit the Westside Urban Market area just before sunset. We started our night out with a walk to one of my favorite baby stores (Seed Factory) to pick up a birthday gift for one of Zoë’s friends, followed by train watching on the pedestrian bridge that also overlooks downtown Atlanta, and then of course, ended our evening with dinner at Taqueria del Sol. The line for Taqueria was just like I remember from the days before I knew that sitting at the bar was an option. That’s the trick if you want to eat there- arrive, put your name on the waiting list for the bar, and stand in line until they come get you. Once they do, it feels like you just won a backstage pass to see your favorite band when they escort you to the bar and you pass all of the people waiting in the Disney World style line. Well, you can do all of that before you have a child. Once you have a baby, sitting at the bar isn’t really an option. A highchair bellied up to the bar seems wrong in so many ways. So, this Friday night, we found ourselves waiting with all the other people. It was fun though- we chatted with a couple behind us who also had a nine month old at home with a babysitter. Part of me was thinking that they were way smarter than us, and part of me was just happy to spend time out with our little family. Probably not the best idea given that it was getting close to her bedtime and the line was moving at a turtle pace, but it did work. Zoë had just polished off her last pack of mum mums as we got to the front of the line to place our order. Saved by Skip (the cashier) and all of his weird t-shirts! Inside we ran into friends- Daniel, one of the Taqueria managers, and the Hovington’s- Rachel, Kristi, Oliver, and Esme. Settled in at our table, Zoë enjoyed her cheese quesadilla, and we enjoyed our usual order of fried chicken tacos- the absolute best! As I’m writing this story, it makes it sound like we were out late. Nope, home by 7pm:)

The joy of our long weekend went beyond Friday night though. I guess Zoë must have known that we had such an exhausting week- recovering from being sick and busy at work. She treated us. Yes, Zoë treated us to two of the best sleep-ins ever! On both Saturday and Sunday mornings, she slept over 13.5 hours until 9am. It was pure heaven and something that we totally enjoyed! So, here’s to the baby that can sleep like a champ- we love you!!!
